Swell Polymer Spheres

These curious Swell Polymer Spheres are made from a chemical known as super absorbent polymer (or SAP). SAPs are amazing materials-they are long chains of molecules that join together in a net-like pattern. Water is pulled in through the holes of the net, causing the molecule chains to soak up tremendous amounts of water. When the molecules absorb water, they swell to 300 times their size + soften to transform into a hydrogel. According to the box, the resulting goo feels like unicorn tears or leprechaun snot. After a while out of water, evaporation will dry out + shrink the spheres again, so you can start all over! Just don’t eat it.
